BIOGRAPHY

The number, identified as the language of everyday consumer society, where the consumer passively experiences the product’s advertising, the artist 121185129514 alias Aurélien Guiho is asking the audience to understand and translate this coding.

Questions about mass consumption, the body of the object, or even the environment evolves through numbers, multiplied, accumulated, superimposed, deconstructed, emptied etc…

The aim is always to question the energy and economic needs of our contemporary societies, and to visualise the industrial and ecological issues that result from our production methods.

The QR code has recently become universally used in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this digital symbol offers more varied opportunities than the introduction of a health tool, particularly in the artistic sphere.

In ‘traditional’ art, the artist’s authority over his work is fundamental. The artist delivers a fixed and exhaustive message, which he alone controls, and which the audience must endeavour to analyse and understand. When the QR code enters the artistic sphere, it undermines this authority by giving way to inconstancy. The work is no longer static; it can even change over time, depending on who is interested in it.

Indeed, ‘I try to offer a meaning beyond the distribution of its pixels in space, a possibility of specific artistic writing, in a polymorphous and conceptual mode. People who can’t read QR codes think they’re looking at an abstract painting, but it’s far from being just that.

I use a variety of techniques and materials, such as 3D pencil and 3D printing, a category that includes aesthetic activities involving the manipulation of plastic forms and volumes, such as sculpture, to produce my works.
